Welcome to Utah BioDesign

The University of Utah’s bioDesign program creates a partnership between clinicians at the Health Sciences Center and student engineering teams. The clinicians supply the ideas, clinical relevancy and mentoring while the student teams develop requirements, build prototypes and conduct testing. All of the projects are based on new ideas or improvements for products and are disclosed to the Technology Commercialization Office as new inventions.

This collaborative relationship between the Medical Center, College of Engineering and Technology Commercialization Office creates a unique interface that moves new ideas towards development and commercialization. Our projects have included many diverse fields of medicine including cardiology, speech pathology, rehabilitation, gastroenterology, cardiothoracic surgery, ophthalmology, neonatology, urology and anesthesiology.
